You’ve heard that old cliché “it’s not where you are but who you’re with.” I’ve been reminded of that so many times in my personal and professional life. I think so many of us (myself included) are all about getting somewhere. We want to find the right person to marry, we want to get that big promotion, land that big account, go on that amazing vacation… this list could go on forever. It’s great to have goals and ambitions in life; however, so much of the really good stuff happens on your way to all of these places. And more importantly, there are significant relationships at every step of the way.
Since my self employment I’ve had many great people with me. As I look back, most of them were the right people for the right time of the business. I’ve learned something with every role and every person. One of my most significant “ah ha” moments was a few years ago when I was going through a difficult time personally and professionally. We hired a member for our creative team that really lit up the office. She had a positive outlook all the time, even when put in situations that weren’t great. From that moment on I decided I wanted more people like her. I can’t control everything about my business, but I can choose who to work with. I need people who are generally upbeat and happy with their lives because I’ve seen how this doesn’t just affect me but everyone at the office. As I continue on this road of “taking the business to another level,” I’m going to relish in the day-to-day interactions with each and every person.

Shell,
You never told me that you were doing this. This is great. Everything is going very well here in NY. Start working with my boss tomorrow. Then going to a Yanks game after work. See you soon.
